Tomás Milani
Tomás is an Agronomist whose research sits at the intersection of agriculture, ecology, and territorial studies. He is particularly interested in how production systems shape landscapes and ecosystems, and in how societies, in turn, are shaped by these transformations.
His work examines the multiple roles of agriculture in contemporary societies—beyond food production—including its ecological impacts, its contributions to rural livelihoods, and its symbolic and material ties to land. Drawing on research in Uruguay, Tomás explores how agrifood systems reflect and reproduce broader socio-ecological tensions, and how these tensions are expressed in land use decisions and sustainability debates.
He is especially engaged with understanding how knowledge, power, and values influence the way we relate to rural territories, and how this affects the possibilities for more just and sustainable futures.
